what is the estimated sum of money which the Hong Kong
Government will have to contribute towards the cost of
such aerodrome?"
The acting Colonial Secretary replied as follows:-
"The estimated cost for forming the aerodrome site
adjoining Kowloon Bay is as follows:-
(a) Resumption of area from the
Kai Tak Development Co.
(b) Resumption of privately owned
lands and properties
(c) Completion of reclamation
$1,001,250
...
...
185,000
including surfacing etc....
(d) Covering Nullahs, road construction
and forming slipways, guide piers
738,000
and moles
Total
605,000
$2,529,250
The above total estimated cost $2,529,250 represents
the cost of acquiring, forming and completing the
aerodrome site and does not include the cost of
buildings, offices, aircraft sheds, workshops and
contingent works."

It will be seen, therefore, that the
contribution made by His Majesty's Government covers only
about one-third of the cost of acquiring and preparing the
site for the Air Port. No provision is made for sheds,
workshops and other buildings, and I presume that the Air
Ministry will provide the necessary funds for the erection of any buildings required at Kai Tak for its own use, the Colony bearing only the cost of such buildings as are
necessary for commercial aviation or for use by the
Hong Kong Government.
